The common prasad offered in a temple are mostly Boondi laddoos and pedhas of different forms.
In most of the cases the reason why kids like to visit temples is because of the ladoos and the pedhas offered in prayers. There used to be times when Besan laddoo were used to be a personal favorite, however now it seems that temples have upgraded themselves in offering prasads.
A temple in Chennai has shown a shift in prasads from a general ones of ladoos and pedhads to now serving its devotees with some international tastes.
A temple in the suburbs of Chennai the 'Jaya Durga Peetham Temple' has broken the traditional forms of prasad and have have replaced them with a burgers, brownies, cracker sandwiches and cherry tomato salads.
It may be difficult for one to believe this piece of information since lot of pointless rumors are making rounds on internet.
But nonetheless who doesn't want to be religious if prasad is a burger, promises burgers, brownies, cracker sandwiches and cherry tomato salads.
The food and the menu is certified by FSSAI has an expiry date printed on it.
To pass the information about the prayers, the temple sends e-invites. The other change the temple has brought in is that it gives a sealed mineral water bottle to all its devotees.
According to K Sri Sridhar
“THE IDEA WAS TO SHOW THAT ANYTHING THAT IS NUTRITIOUS AND PREPARED IN A CLEAN KITCHEN WITH A CLEAN MIND CAN BE SERVED TO GOD. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE ONLY TRADITIONAL DISHES,”
Additional Jaya Durga Peetham temple offers “birthday cake prasadam” for devotees on their birthday.
“We maintain a computerised register of their birth dates and addresses and door deliver a cake prasadam to them. It’s good and works well with the elderly devotees, as the cake coming from the temple adds a special touch to the occasion,”
